Alnour Stand – Awareness Campaign

Alnour Stand was one of the biggest awareness campaigns for the rights of people with visual impairment in Sudan. As a partnership between Glimmer of Hope and Education Without Borders Initiative, the three-day campaign aimed to promote the rights of visually impaired people in Khartoum in 2013.

This campaign has a tremendous impact on the education of people with visual impairment, especially on Alnour Institute where we focused on grabbing the attention of every stakeholder in government sector as well as private and humanitarian actors in Sudan.

Self-sufficiency of the Educational Tools

This project aims to eliminate the challenge that facing all the Visually Impaired education centers which is the lack of the educational tools and equipment to each student. We sustained and covered the need of Alnour Institute of Teaching Blind for at least the coming 2 years by providing the below basic tools:


Eyes Surgeries

Glimmer of Hope (GOH) contributed in raising funds and coordinating two successful eye surgeries for two of Alnour Institute for the Blind’s students which resulted in bringing light into their eyes. The two students were residents at the institute’s accommodation.

Academic Strengthening Lessons

In 2011, Glimmer of Hope (GOH) volunteers participated in accompanying the visually impaired students of Alnour Institute for the Blind in Khartoum inside exams to read questions and write answers on behalf of the students. However, once the exams results were revealed, we noticed there’s a huge gap between the educational level of the students who come from states outside of Khartoum and the ones who live inside the institute’s accommodation.
